i take it back, Nils had 20 seconds, was almost always blocked by a stage filled with large men except for Knopfler son?Thanks for asking Nils to join you, but when you get a talent like lofgren He is the one that is honored. At any rate when his 20 seconds were up he proved why the English guitar legends don't want him around. He simply plays on a different level.

You bring a guest named nils lofgrin in with any band and I don't care if their leader is Mark Knopler, Neil Young- you better give him more than 10-15 seconds to teach the crowd and the band that Nils' style is without peer in what HE DOES. Yes Knopler changed my life a bit when I heard Sultans of Swing- he too of course is without peer in his style in what HE DOES.It is simple good manners that Nils should have had the bulk of the song and if given the chance would have showed us that he had mastered Knopler's style but there is no way Knopler could copy Nils' because it is constantly changing depending on his mood.

nah, i have read both Nils' and drummer Ralph Molina's account of how they worked out the part together...Nils' FIRST instrument was the accordian, so he was an accomplished keyboardist

Those piano parts were not written by Nils. Neil put him on piano...an instrument he had never played in his life and Neil told him to play the piano part in Southern Man. That song is completely written by Neil Young.

OMG!!! Mark & Nils- what a fenominal gathering! - 2 of my all time favorites together on one stage playing a great song too! Could watch & listen to Nils anytime! Actually- I saw Nils the last time in 2008 in Baltimore Rams Head Live- Just an incredible person to see live and a great guy. Since I'm from Maryland where Nils is from , he's that much more special to me.

Well, damn. Two of my favorite guitarists together. They both have what I call a Country and Western sensitivity. Nobody tries to out play the other. Rather they play off each other. Mark and Nils may have the most unmistakable sounds in music (save Chet and Les) and to hear them play together is amazing. If you have not heard Mark and Emmylou Harris give it a listen.
