Amen to that! This is the most difficult song I have ever sung! Timing, projection, and fitting-in all of the words whilst taking a breath(if you're lucky!). Dionne Warwick...awesome, and in my opinion, her best ever recording!

I recall the late Jerry Orbach was to sing this on Broadway took a look at it and said "How in the hell do you sing this song?" Word was they had to call Dionne to the phone and get her to sing it to him.

Bacharach made everyone work...He had the ear, listen to the'Mexican interlude"pure genius...no problem this people got loaded with money, they deserved it: made a whole generation happy a gave them a touch of the American music: brilliant this, and anything else from Burt.

Amazing upbeat performance . She interprets and projects the essence of the lyrics. Her phrasing is spot on and makes me feel young again.

One of Dionne's all time greatest. She is absolutely one of the all time best vocalists ever.

The trumpet player is my dad Jim Slane. All he ever said about this was that she made a lot of money and they were paid scale.

Does anyone here have any idea how hard it is to sing this song? I mean, you gotta have RANGE and projection power. It's a total labor to get this song completed. It's obvious that the composer never gave the 'interpreters' of this piece any slack what so ever. But! if done right as (Warwick did here), it pops.

There's some confusion about the trumpet player here - it's not Herb Alpert but Chuck Findley (great session player) who also played the trumpet solo at the end of Raindrops Keep Falling on My Head. Alpert and the TJB did play an arrangement of Promises Promises for their 1974 You Smile album.

Wanting love, needing love, winning love, losing love, losing love forever, regaining love. Somehow, no one has ever elucidated these prime human emotions the way Hal David did through his simple, yet brilliant lyrics. Bert Bacharach? A musical genius of mind-boggling proportions. Dionne? A wonderful talent -- but other women could have been Dionne just as well (see: Springfield, Dusty).
