"(In the) Land of Make Believe", a song written by Burt Bacharach & Hal David and sung by Dionne Warwick, Dusty Springfield and others.

You are always here with me

In the Land of Make-Believe

In the Land of Make-Believe

In the Land of Make-Believe

You're mine tonight, although you are far away

In the Land of Make-Believe

I'm holding you tight

A silver moon is shining above

And there's love in your eyes

And I'm kissing you like I used to do

Yesterday in paradise

I've been livin' in the Land of Make-Believe

Since you've been gone

I need you so much that, without your love,

I must deceive myself to go on

Your loving hand caresses my face

We embrace tenderly

Never will we part

Deep down in my heart

You are always here with me

You are always here with me

In the Land of Make-Believe

In the Land of Make-Believe

I need you so much

Your loving hand caresses my face

We embrace tenderly

Never will we part

Deep down in my heart

You are always here with me

You are always here with me

In the Land of Make-Believe

In the Land of Make-Believe

You are always here with me

In the Land of Make-Believe

I think this is one of the most pleasing melodies I've heard. Bacharach is easily one of the most gifted melody writers of all time. Dionne sang this song sweetly and beautifully.

This is why I fell in love with Dionne. The times she could sing and sing well. Not like much of the music she is doing today. Age and cigarettes have really done it to that golden voice.

Hard to choose between this and Dusty Springfield's version.

I appreciate this posting. Donald Fagen and Walter Becker of Steely Dan wrote an alternate melody over the chord changes of this tune called "Rapunzel" that was recorded on a great jazz album they produced called "Apogee". I've always wanted a version of the original for study purposes- again, many, many thanks.
