I don't know what you're rambling about at this point. My point was your claim that Slipknot is "brutal" means you have limited exposure to metal. I didn't say Slipknot was "soft", but it certainly isn't as heavy as you are making it out to be.

Sounds more like your stubbornness is showing. Limited? I love music. I sort of expected you to say that, most metal fans say the same thing...but are usually the ones defending their limited view. Essentially what you are saying is I need more experience in listening to metal...for me to know how to characterize the music? Does metal have to be brutal to be metal? I mean you can't really listen to Slipknot and say it's soft and isn't at all heavy. If you do, then you've forgotten how to judge.

You come across as very ignorant, as if making a comparison was somehow wrong, and my idea of what constitutes "brutal" is some sort of preconceived notion that I didn't arrive to on my own. Slipknot ranks low on the "extreme" scales outside of their theatrics (if even that). They're played on radio for a reason. You believing the CRAP they play is "heavy" just shows you have a limited experience in listening to metal.

My point initially was to point out the polarity of you condemning someone else for making comparisons...when you are too. I'm aware I'm making my own opinion, thanks for noticing. So...nobody at all would make such a claim? I just did...and I've listened to plenty "extreme" & "brutal" bands. Yes, I still can say it was brutal because I can actually take it for what it is...rather than clouding my mind with preconceived notions of what is brutality to me.

What's your point exactly? You made your own opinion as well. Anyone who's listened to far more "extreme" bands would not in a million years claims Slipknot to be "brutal". The OP obviously doesn't venture much outside the realm of mallcore, mass-produced radio music.

I'm making comparisons for sure, and there's no way anything Slipknot has ever done is "brutal". They are mallcore, plain and simple. Yes, plenty of other bands I've listened to are actually "brutal", but Slipknot isn't.

You don't even realize you are making comparisons as well. When you hear the word "brutal" to describe a sound, your mind registers all of the other bands you've listened to that sound the most "brutal". By saying Slipknot is in no way brutal, doesn't actually mean it isn't. I'm in no way defending Slipknot, but I did start listening to them in 6th grade...I'm 25 now. I still think what they did in their early years, 'S/T' and 'Iowa' albums...were pretty dark and brutal.
