The longing imbued in this song resonated strongly with me for years after a toughmarital breakup. Richard seems subdued here (not surprisingly). It's tough to play out your private emotional turmoil in front of a paying audience.

Oh Man, this is sad. But what a great song, what a great version, thanks for posting. But-- oh man, this is sad.

When you're singing the truth, and the truth is horribly painful, sometimes it's hard to use your voice to its best.

Yes, it's 1982. I'm guessing the uploader got confused with the original version's release or recording date. :)

Far as I know the Wax wasn't even a club in 1974. It was a pool in an earlier incarnation.

Incredible....the words are so filled with the longing any human alive feels with any sensibility left in themselves....Simplicity and meaning win again...thanks

Gosh -footage from the "Tour from Hell"! The story was always that Linda's singing was at its peak on this tour but her voice had gone by the time they were ready to make an "official" recording - and this clip proves it.

thanks for posting.. i was there at the Wax Museum in Wash DC for Richard and Linda Thompson but thought it was around 1982. Linda (Peters) Thompson was a close friend of Sandy Denny and it is hard to listen to her great and sad voice without thinking also of "The Lady".
