The Germans are very skilled with language. They must have really good language schools because they speak a very realistic version of English that seems a lot more natural than someone who speaks it as a second language. Though, the rumor is that they cannot say "squirrel" no matter how well they speak English. In any event, I understand that you can go to Berlin speaking no German and get around just as well as you can in the UK on English alone. And, the people in Germany are among the most friendly you will meet on the entire planet. My family served over there after World War II and they thought very highly of Germany and the German people. That is pretty wild considering they were enemies at one time! In any event, everyone I have known who has gone over there has said it is one of the top places to go. Whenever I encounter German tourists in the states, I am always extra nice because these are very decent people.

@guywithknife It's Pretty Ironic since German is not a language that's known for being "smooth". German is a language that feels like it hits a brick wall after every other syllable. (Not an insult, just a personal observation)
