Dickey Lee never recorded a bad song! I too had forgotten about this one. I don't know if or how high this charted but I came across an old WTSN (AM1270) music survey from Feb.24, 1963 and this song was one of their 'picks of the week'. coincidentally "Hey Paula" by Paul and Paula was #12 that same week. could Dickey Lee's song have been sort of a sly 'dig' at them? lol

This song has been in my head for 50 years. No oldies station here has ever played it. But I've lived long enough for there to be a youtube and everything turns up here.

I totally agree with Chezfun and Lime Popsicle. I was a junior in high school in March of '63 and never heard this song. until today. on Youtube.

One of his best,no doubt. Maybe THE best! OMT (I think maybe Dickey's folks had a hand in Patches demise! :) When you drown, you SINK! She was dead BEFORE she hit the water!)
