Charming track from the 1972 LP "Free to Be You and Me". Also included on the Expanded Edition CD "Touch Me in the Morning" (2010), and on the soundtrack to the Charlize Theron film "Young Adult" (2011).

I used this song in a slide show I made in college in 1976 when I just stumbled upon it at the library. The slide show was of children that I photographed on fountain square in Cincinnati. Now today, in 2014 my oldest son is getting married and after looking at photos of his finance and him as children I thought of this song and its innocence. I can't believe I found it on you tube, but the power of the internet is AWESOME. I am going to use it in a slide show at his rehearsal dinner. Ah the circle of life!

Watched 'Young Adults' the other night and thought this song at the end summed up the movie perfectly. Was surprised it's Diana Ross. Never had heard the song before.

Came here cause of the movie Young Adult. I'd never heard this song before. I found out it was also on the Marlo Thomas Show back in the 70's. Guess I was born too late to see it (born in 1978). good song!

That's not how I see this song, personally. I think it's more like... we don't have to become anyone that we don't want to be. Yes, there will be changes no matter what we do ("I might be pretty, you might grow tall) but deep down we're the same people. We don't have to change who we are to conform to society. We're free to be... you and me.

And... these changes are welcome, appreciated and bring forth relief. Understanding one another and getting along with one another is liberating. It's not all about me. And that's okay :)

But... but... I am a person. And I am alive. And I am intelligent (I think). Life is full of circumtances that we have to adapt to everyday. Lovely song, naive thought... for you have to leave your bedroom one day. You have to change, because you WILL learn and grow, whether you like it or not.

I remember hearing this song a lot when I was a kid. When I saw "Young Adults", which is a great film by the way, I was very moved by the placement of the song. I downloaded off iTunes right away. What a wonderful song, full of good, positive energy. Reminds me of a better time...

What a great treat. I too heard it on "Young Adults" and shared the source with friends. I like this redention but I REALLY like the short video of this with Roberta Flack and Michael Jackson. It reminds me of my early teaching days and the times that I told my students that they were perfect just the way they are. I'M getting back to that philosophy now after years and years of not being true to who I really am.It's nice to reminisce but it's even better to believe that I'm ok just the way I am
