This is so brilliant, as is every version of this song I've heard her play. Her hyper-literal interpretation makes me wonder how anyone ever thought it would make a good pop song. I love the Supreme's version, though, as well.

God, that was beautiful. We used to be good friends, and despite all that has happened, I'll always adore her musically. No one on earth can do what she does. An no one should try.

Just in case you didn't know, Diamandas Piano playing is almost as good as her 4 octave voice. I just put someone in check for calling Adelle "queen'. I posted this song on her comment.

totally. she sings this from a truly broken, a truly empty place... her world IS empty, and you can feel it.. the sliding effect of the piano adds to the feeling of pulling you under... pulling down. it perfectly captures that feeling when you have lost someone and your world is gone. only Diamanda.. what is 'scary' or 'harsh' about her voice is exactly what makes it so real. pop songs sometimes are missing the true feeling of despair that they are singing of. it *should* make you uncomfortable.
