One of the best pop records ever - period. Produced by the great Phil Harding and Ian Curnow, this song is my personal winner of the Eurovision Song Contest every year. For full credits, please see the last minute of the video.

You are right. My memory was misleading me, I`m afraid. Tony Mortimer was a guest, and being interviewed, in the studio on the night of the UK final, but he was there in support of Deuce and Harding/Curnow, cause East 17 and Deuce had the same manager, Tom Watkins, and because he had written some of the East 17 songs with Harding/Curnow - among them Let it rain, I believe. It was his presence in the studio that played tricks on my memory - and led me to believe he had co-written the song.

On the cd, it said written by Kean / Harding / Curnow. So don't know about Tony Mortimer's involvement.

I`m not sure what you mean by "the general consensus from Europe," but the UK have tried this type of bubblegum pop from time to time - and the track record hasn`t been that good. Scootch, the Peter Waterman written song of 2010 - not to forget Jemini. Apart from Sonia (2nd. with Better the Devil you know) and Gina G (9th. I think? with Just a little bit) the results have been rather dismal. Alot because of poor singing, I grant you. But I would guess, also because ESC have viewers of all ages.

Dont agree - the general consensus from Europe is very very positive for this entry - had it been our entry. TOP 5 definitely in 1995 had it been.

Probably the British public voted Love City Groove due to influence by current trends at that time and didn't want a cheesy pop number to represent UK. Shame really this would have been a safe option and probably would have won.

@25fitguy The UK has a habit of picking the "wrong" song 4 Europe! This was classic pre-Steps pop!

@geordieJay Haha! Me too - my (ahem) Cookery folder was covered with Deuce stickers/posters etc.

Wasn`t Tony Mortimer of East 17 involved in the songwriting too? Why wasn`t he included with Ian Curnow and the others in the end credits? About the song. The riff is great, but the whole sound is a little to hard, and it could do with a little more variations as well. At least that is my feeling. But it is better than the one which won the UK qualifier - no question! But none of the UK candidates stood out that year. Sam Fox and her band should have won - but wouldn`t stand a chance in ESC.

This should have won the 1995 UK Song For Europe instead of the awful Love City Groove. Still got me pic disc of this and Call It Love!

Definitely one of the best Harding/Curnow songs ever - that organ riff is brilliant!
