Derek Roddy, former drummer for bands such as Nile, Hate Eternal, Divine Empire, Malevolent Creation, etc. (EDIT: March 2010 - Derek is currently playing with Traumedy and Serpents Rise. He's been with them for awhile, but I never updated this because I suck crazy amounts of cock.) gives us a few tips on how to utilize heel-toe technique on your hi-hat pedal to work on your balance, coordination, timing, and interdependence.
For the record, so I don't keep getting comments asking these questions: *sigh*
1) I am not Derek Roddy. I wish I was, but I'm just a guy who downloaded something off of his website and posted it on YouTube.
2) Why is he using two bass drums and a double pedal?
In this specific case, being that it's a bit of an older video, Derek's bass drums are THE SAME SIZE, but there's no mic hooked up to the bass drum on the left. I've heard theories ranging from being able to do the lick easier, to having it as a tom holder, to having a broken microphone. The latter is my assumption, but no confirmation on my part. You can ask Derek personally if it bothers you that much; just quit asking, please. I'm not 100% sure. :)
