Oh yes, definitely. Clarke in the early days was extremely poppy, lots of major key songs. I personally prefer Gore's darker, minor key approach.

The early tracks which you say have that (poppy) sound were tracks that were written & produced by Vince Clarke, This track was written & produced by Martin Gore. Gore has a much darker approach to his writing.

I prefer the SFD and Violater albums and the songs on there are amazing.. BUT.. this is my favorite DM song of all. I am not sure whether because it suits my voice better and I love singling along to it but , damn, I love it.

@kenfig Eh, I think I see what you mean. I just didn't get as much of a pop impression as much as some others had, particularly in the outro. Seems almost a bit mellow (The only really poppy songs to me on ABF were "Meaning of Love & A Photograph of You).

I'd say it's the second (See You being first) with a music video to sound a bit less commercial sounding. =)

Coldwave? I recall reading about it once, but I can't really see what it is. So, this would be an example of it? Sounds like a nice genre to me... =D

Same here, it's my favorite album. I just love the element it has, calm, dark, meloncholy, yet still upbeat. A nice break from Speak and Spell. =)
