I love this song by Dennis Wilson. I look like Dennis with my hair! I also have drums for Rockband

That's Dennis speaking at the first part, not Carl as someone said below. Anyways, I prefer the final outcome on the album Pacific Ocean Blue. It's truly amazing, just like Dennis. Read Jon Stebbins' book Dennis Wilson the Real Beach Boy. There's a story about how "River Song" came to be. Truly awesome.

An interview I saw at the time quoted someone a saying that the a couple of Beach Boys (I would bet a least Carl) are on a couple of tracks, buried in the mix. I like this (Beach Boys?) version -- Carl and Brian are definitely heard.

carl wrtoe the river song with him, mike helped on pacific ocean blues, carl plays lead guitar and sings, bruce johnston does backing vocals, 70s member ricky fataar drums on some songs, hal blaine too, dean torrence sings background, many beach boys afficiados, but instead of carol kaye he got james fucking jamerson for the album.

this is the first time I have heard this version. I agree this one should have been released on POB but in the record deal itself, there was a clause that no other Beach Boy could perform on it. They wanted it to be a truly solo effort.

@alexandertarangerkin I'm pretty sure it's an early version of Pacific Ocean Blue, Carl is indeed in that album.

is this the version recorded by the Beach Boys for the Add Some Music sessions in 1970? or is this just a early version from his Pacific Ocean Blue? Thought I heard Carl speaking in the background..

Dennis should have kept the drums at the end as intense as they are on this version. I prefer to listen to this one.

I like this better than Ocean Blue version. The guitar is awesome. Why oh why was this not included on the legacy release???

This is a dubb from a cassette of an rough mix of River Song. If accounts are correct it was a mix done by Ed Roach. Notable for the guitars mixed in the forefront.
