It's a given Dennis and Michael loved each other. It's also clear they hated each other. David Marks said they would fight like fuck as kids, and on it went. The Beach Boys were/are so fucking odd/weird and beautiful.

The only Beach Boy who really digged the ocean as they said in the 60's. (and surfed) He came home one day from surfing in Sept 1961 and heard Brian, Carl, Al and Mike making beautiful music on their front lawn and said, "hey that sounds great guys" then went on to talk about his new found hobbie, surfing, which led to the Beach Boys first # 1 hit song SURFIN. The Beach Boys wanted to be called the Stapleton's after those blue and white stapleton shirts they used to wear, But the record company didn't know that, so the record company just called them The Beach Boys because of the song Surfin then printed too many records for sale calling them The Beach Boys, so the Beach Boys had to settle for The Beach Boys over The Stapleton's, which I think in this case the record company helped them out.

+Anthony Arrigali uhhhh No... This is Dennis Singing - HOLY MAN which was initially recorded during the PACIFIC OCEAN BLUE sessions as an isntrumental inspired after the trip to India (with the beatles) and touring with the Maharishi as he was blown away that a "Holy Man" actually existed; he was never able to put lyrics down to HOLY MAN - (WHICH IS NOT ON THIS ALBUM; It is on the second disk of the remaster from 2008; which is the un-released album which would have been Dennis's second album "Bamboo" was the name it dubbed at the time but may not have been the final title - The tracks had all been finished aside from HOLY MAN so FOO FIGHTERS Drummer Taylor Hawkins who... (Oddly in the video of the recording when they showed the same standing style at the exact console inside the studio really resembles him) - and his voice... to what the Engineer stated "Even his band members werent able to tell it was not him singing HOLY MAN at the first listen;" so for HOLY MAN - TAYLOR HAWKINS of THE FOO FIGHTERS co-wrote and sings; more as a tribute than as he put it "I don't want to be the guy pissing on someones picasso" sort of blown away that he was chosen to be the one to have the honor to sing on the track - Taylor's version really is astonishing and his voice is equally raspy and emotional and Denny's - he really nails the mood as well; so Kudos to Taylor Hawkins but... Anthony Arrigali you need to do a little bit of Research before stating "Dennis Is not singing on this song" - He sung the entire album man. - Here is a little nerdy Wilson family Fanboy fact for you as well - During the BAMBOO Recording sessions as it was near the end of Dennis's life; and the drugs and alcohol had left his voice in absolute shambles (It does work for the music though;) he is unable to sing higher notes; so CARL sings some parts at the same time as him, and does lots of backing tracks on BAMBOO. I used Caps to highlight the important keywords.... Hate misinformation when it comes to music; as I am a musician and music engineer - perhaps historian as well.- To William Foster; I agree very much so with the "George Harrison Comparison" - That was the FIRST thing I thought of when I first heard the album; (even the guitar is comparable in tone and style oddly enough) - All Things Must Pass (George Harrison) and Pacific Ocean Blue are both Masterpieces - The only difference is George's presence of brilliance was really profound toward the end of The Beatles Career - While Dennis bloomed after his time as a lead singer (which was also excellent; Forever is an amazing song for example - but it's in "The Formula") - Dennis was Brian Wilson's biggest fan and supporter; and quoted saying "SMiLE is So Good it makes PET SOUNDS STINK!" - Dennis Wilson 1967 - He was blown away by Pet Sounds and then in absolute awe blown away times infinity by what he was hearing on SMiLE when he came back with the band; on tracks like "Moonshine" off of Pacific Ocean Blue you really can hear that Dennis in a way carried on Brian's studio genius to an extent; and uses / borrows / makes his own Recording Techniques and Musical Styles / recording styles (The opening of Moonshine being a perfect example) from the Pet Sounds / SMiLE Brilliance of Brian; along with having some very SMiLE esque moments of lyrical beauty; abstract and gorgeous; the title tracks first few lines for example; or Dreamer. RIP Dennis WilsonRIP Carl WilsonLive on my hero Brian WilsonKeep that "I'm still 20" year old voice Al Jardine!!!!!Go Retire and sleep in your pile of dirty money you scum bag MIKE LOVE (who resents the attention Brian continues to get)I F'n hate how you refer to the early beach boy days as if you had been there BRUCE JOHNSTON - keep attached To Mike Hate - err Love's Dog Leash you... poser. The only good thing you've ever done is Play Pet Sounds for Paul and John twice in a hotel room. Allowing us to get Sgt. Peppers; then again you also played Pet Sounds for Paul and John - Something I think Brian would not have done at that time;pfft Bruce Johnston... in any interview he interrupts whenever questions are aimed at Al or Brian about back in the day he just starts blabbing about unrelated crap and how Great it was to be in the band of artistic blah blah and how amazing Pet Sounds and Smile was BLAH BLAH FULL OF SHIT LYING POS; Your Second only to Mike Love in the FN Hall of Shame.anyway; Thanks guys.

I've got to agree. While I have a soft spot in my heart for "Love You," it's a mess. And really, it's a snapshot of Brian almost at his worst.

After Holland the kind of tried to go back to the beachy surfy sound and it didn't work out so well. I agree with you.

Not that it has anything to do with music, but he was the only BB who actually surfed.

If you think about it Dennis was the Invisible Genius of the beach boys because everybody gives Brian credit for the sound of the beach boys but Dennis was truly the one who came up with the vision for the bands image...Brian, Dennis and Carl WERE THE BEACH BOYS!!! mike love, bruce and al jardine played a secondary role...

Pacific Ocean Blue is batter than any Beach Boys album released at this point in the late 70's. The Beach Boys albums from the early 70's are fantastic, but then they lost it after Holland.

you are wrong this song was on the released album Pacific Ocean Blue, you are thinking of Holy Man which the vocals were laid in by Taylor Hawkins(Foo Fighters) the musical track on that song was Dennis' work in toto.

Anthony Arrigali

This is not Dennis singing but it was sung well. It's another singer, Dennis never got to finish this song.

I was lucky enough to buy this album a few years ago on vinyl and on later on CD, it's a great album. I wasn't aware of it when it was released even though I'm a big Beach Boys fan. I don't remember how many times I saw them over the years but it was quite a few. I tried to see them once a year, at least I got to see Dennis in person, Brian wasn't touring with them at the time, well maybe once when he was making his comeback. I did see Brian perform Petsounds and it was a great concert.

It's a shame Brian's artistic peak ('65-67) and Dennis' (76-80) didn't coincide. Lennon and McCartney were great mostly because they had each other to bounce ideas of off. Brian was alone in the 60s and had to rely on outside help (from Asher and VDP) and Dennis had to take Mike's crap in the '70s. If only they had each other to lean on as a song writing team they could've been amazing (well, more amazing). Imagine a '67 SMiLE followed up by POB's back to the basics approach in '68
