I still recommend to see the rebuild movies, the first seems like the first 6 episodes in one movie, the second is where the real changes to the story shows up, and Shinji is less of a crybaby and emo also

I doubt there'll be any continuation/expansion beyond the quickly-wrapped-up Daimao that was created. There just wasn't enough fan-backing to warrant the financial undertaking. Which is a pity, because I feel they had a very deep philosophical story to tell there (in a much better way than Evangelion's mindfuck emo shite at that).

It`s not carved in stone, the the company who made the anime might continue with it and make their own ways of the story, they do have writers themself. I mean look at the anime Rosario+Vampire, they who made it continued the anime even though they had passed the part where the manga was ages ago(do`nt get me wrong, that manga is still going on and are about to be finished in a few months) and made their own version of the story
