very beautiful yet sad song by a very talented singer R.I.P Del Shannon only 55 when he passed away (Dec30th 1934-Feb 8th 1990) I am only 22 and I love this man's music.

This is such a terrific song - I bought the Peter and Gordon version as a 45 when it came out in the winter of 1964 and it still is one of my top 10 very favorite songs.

Troubled or just bored? "Oldies Show circuit too many times can surely make a man crazy. How many times can one sing "Runaway"?He was far too precious for that "factory job" monotony he ran away from.

Check Del's duet of IGTP with Nils Lofgren here on YT. There's also a re-recorded version on here by Del as well as versions by The Wynners and Cotton & Lloyd.

I had no idea Del Shannon wrote this great song. I was only familiar with the Peter & Gordon release, which I love. I didn't know who wrote it, and after a while I just had to find out. What a great tune. If Del had released a good-sounding record of this song under his own name in the 60s before P&G, he might still be with us today. It certainly would have cemented his career & legendary status, and people wouldn't just remember him for Runaway.

Don't forget that Southern Pacific covered this in 1990 as an acapella song and knocked the socks off it.

Thanks Chris, great song! Even though Del Shannon wrote this I like Peter and Gordon's version a little better. Ron
