Del Shannon -

Broken Promises - Transcribed by Brent441

Tonight your leavin'

And it's goodbye.

A fool in loves not smart.

How will I tell my heart that.

Broken words, Broken promises.

Our broken hearts.

I really love you.

And I still do.

Our love was make beleive.

And now I planly see that.

Broken words, Broken promises.

Our broken hearts

Don't you remember?

Things you once said.

Can't you forget him.

Take me back baby.

love me instead.

But you said your sorry.

It has to end.

You put on quite a show.

And now I really know that.

Broken words, Broken promises.

Our broken hearts.

Broken words, Broken promises

Our broken hearts...

Del was in Omaha in the 80's in a small venue, You could tell Del was just too big for this setting, it was simply something I will treasure for all time

this surely could have been a hit as an "A" side..not theflip of another...still great to know someone else obviously feels the same....he was my favorite from the 60s

I saw the same show in Harrogate in the November, Bo Diddley was also part of the line up , I totally agree with you about the show , Del finished the first half of the show and Rick closed the final half . One of the best shows I have been to .@TheRoloCasanova

Irish singer Red Hurley recorded "Broken Promises" and it was a #1 hit (in Ireland) in March, 1976.

Did Del Shannon ever make a really bad record, I think that sometimes the B sides of some his records would have been hits had they been released as A sides.

This is my fave Del Shannon song without doubt and he made some corkers. Have it on CD and although it was "only" a B side, it has that true 60s defining feel for me. I saw Del live at Manchester Apollo along with Frankie Ford, Bobby Vee, Marvelettes and Rick Nelson - what a great show. Sadly, Rick died shortly after and Del not long after that! What a waste!

Along with "Downtown" by Petula Clarke, this song is the epitome for the sixties to me. Class!
