In remembrance of Del's passing some 20 years today on 02.08.1990 - here is a real hidden gem !! Tom Petty recently issued a deluxe Anthology which includes this concert. Sadly both Phil Seymour's and Del's performances were axed from the final cut. However - both performers are clearly visible on Petty's left hand side during "Breakdown" on the newly issued DVD. Del played rhythm guitar and performed back vox along with Phil Seymour during "Breakdown". IIRC - Tom would go on and perform with Del (as a guest star) on 4 occasions during Del's "Drop down and get Me" tour in 1982.

This is crazy great! I like Petty and Del Shannon. I grew up near his hometown of Coopersville, MI so everyone had heard of Del Shannon. I used to have an original copy of "Little Town Flirt", it was the first LP that my mother ever purchased. Sadly it was broken during a move many years ago...Too bad that this did not end up on the final cut of Petty's anthology, it is true art.

Dwight Twilley was always considered butt rock. Del and Tom will always be first class songwriters, singers and legends.

Don't feel bad, I think I was there too (Santa Monica Civic, Greg Kihn opening?) and I didn't get to kiss Phil either. -Erik-

I don't think its too late for a Wilburys tour. We've still got Bob, Tom, Jeff, Jim, and Dhani.

@Heyollie27 I'm sad for your loss, but his music stlll resonates. Just last year a cover of "Precious to Me" charted highly over in Europe. His manager Saul Davis once said that he had some rehearsal tapes of Phil, one of which included a demo of "Back in my Life again" - one of Gene Clark's best unknown songs !

I produced a few songs on Phil and I'm looking for the tapes now. I never saw any of these videos but it's cool seeing Phil on stage again. Sad loss.

I was at this concert..married to Phil Seymour and I was pissed because I didnt get to kiss him when the clock struck midnight..It was a magical night.. We were just young kids and chasing our dreams. Thanks for posting this video it really helps me to recapture the youth.

And to think Petty would would cover this song with the Wilburys in 1990 for a B-Side to the Volume 3 album. Great clip!

This is one of those rare clips we run across occasionally on YouTube that really make the YT experience fun. I was one of the earliest Del Shannon fans, and Petty and Twilley/Seymour were pretty great too. Thanks for the post!
