Brilliant cross over. ....a song about British "ton up" boys given the blue grass treatment. In the original it's down to Box Hill they'd ride....a run from London down into Surrey ,famously fast road.

Sure, I love some electronic music and some hip hop, and some of my favorite artists lie in those categories, but god damn do I love bluegrass music. I will never understand how someone could like music, but not bluegrass, it is the soul that lies at the core of every genre of music.

I saw the Del McCoury group in an intimate setting (Champaign, IL) , about 15 years ago. It was one of the best shows (theater, music, comedy, all forms) I'd ever seen. And as the bartender, I'd seen a lot.I'm really disappointed with this cover, as it seems to gloss over the most compelling lines of the story. i.e. the dramatic lines are delivered as from a used car salesman, hoping to avoid the bad news.About three years prior to seeing Del, I saw Richard Thompson at the Long Auditorium in Lafayette, IN. He didn't seem to realize that "1952 Vincent" was his masterpiece. The crowd kept chanting it, and he kept playing other things. And then he recognized what they were asking for. That was a brilliant performance.

Could be better by bob seger.? 'at's MOR housewife rock. I'd rather hear it done by pete seger. It's a tragic love song. If you haven't heard richard thompson do it on a good night you have not yet lived

good gawd y'all

it gets better when they perform the song live...I know, I know, that's a technicality...true though...they LEAN into this one the way the group does when they have something fine in front of them...Del loves it, it's plain

Grandpa Banana. does a brilliant version. Five string guitar, mandolin and a old upright bass.

The talent shows when a band sounds better live than in the studio. This is a decent recording. It just doesn't do their live shows justice.

I've been thinking about the Del McCoury/Richard Thompson debate, so here's my 2 cents: I don't like the original version by Thompson. I think he sings it like a Greenwich Village artist, and I don't think that fits the storyline of the song. On the other hand, I love the version by Del, HOWEVER, done as a bluegrass song doesn't fit the storyline either. I think if it were done by Bob Seger, it would probably be a better "fit" so to speak, than Del or Richard's versions.

Richards voice is just so haunting. There are sooo many versions of this because NOBODY can actually play it on the acoustic guitar like him.... CHECK AND MATE ;)
