Man Deerhoof songs are literally full of references to "bullshit" classic rock riffs. This is part of what makes them cool. I feel sorry for anybody not well versed enough to pick up on the many Zeppelin/Stones/Who/Free refs and just appreciate them as part of a rich tapestry of influence and tradition rather than try to legalistically extract the influence of the stuff they can't be bothered to educate themselves about

well...u don't really count it in 14/4.it's three measures of 4/4 and then the fourth is 2/4

I probably left my Offend Maggie CD in the stereo since I got it... I get excited every time it comes on and air drum in my living room.

the two most important differences between the riffs: Deerhoof's part is in 14/4, where as "All Right Now" is in plain old 4/4. The other thing is that Deerhoof's riff uses the phrygian mode, whereas Free's riff is using the mixolydian mode. The only similarity is honestly the first two chords..and who gives a fuck, really? Deerhoof is way better than that bullshit.

[I mean All Right Now, as schlepworld says.]

It's the riff from Alright Now by Free (with Paul Rodgers). But Deerhoof's riff is in minor and the phrase is truncated; it's awesome. I love how the bass doesn't kick in until 1:44.

I've never seen anyone do more with just a bass drum, snare, and ride cymbal.
