It's funny, because I have exactly the same feeling while listening to this song with my eyes closed :) ... a kind of magic, I think...

@KGuitarH And in addition to that, it really tells what a great hobby flying is. To get away from all. To be only you and your airplane.

Why is this song so extremely unknown and therefor underrated? It's absolutely beautiful! I first heard it when I was 4 and it's still one of my absolute favorite songs, one of the greatest songs ever in my opinion!

@SilverTounge85 How do you arrive at this information concerning 'Skies'? I think you're dreaming....

Idiot?

Not in my version of 'Purpendicular'. 'Watch The Skies' from the 'Abandon' album was a song left out from the 'The Battle Rages On' album, and was reworked with Steve, playing in a Blackmore kind of way on it. Not the 'Aviator'. Totally new song back in 1995, I have the readio recording where Paice, Steve and Roger play an unplugged early demo of it, titled 'The Highlander'.

I saw Deep Purple in Oslo, without Blackmoore. It is not Deep Purple without him.. Morse is a fine guitarist, but for this band, no. -Combo DP will allways be the only DP! But ofcourse, the concert was fun, with Don Arey replacing Lord.

Naah I don't know. I might have misread it, because I remember that I read it from the back of Purplexed, which has songs from the battle rages on, so I might have read the writers of the wrong song :/

no from what i hear all the songs from "Purpendicular" album was work from steve morse. what does "aviator" have to do with ritchie blackmore? steve morse is a pilot. this does not at all sound like a song from ritchie blackmore, this sounds more like the steve morse band.

You know, this song was acctually made by BLACKMORE. Believe it or not. It reads so in Purpendiculars notes.

its a shame you dont here purple do this stuff more often but its like every one wants to hear the classics like smoke on the water as much as there gd songs they cant compare to this awsome song one of favourites
