- LYRICS -

When the sun goes to bed

That's the time your raise your head

That's your lot in life Lalena

Can't blame you Lalena

Arty Tart la de da

Can your part get much sadder

That's your lot in life Lalena

Can't blame you Lalena

Run you hand through your hair

Paint your face with despair

That's your lot in life Lalena

Can't blame you Lalena

When the sun goes to bed

That's the time your raise your head

That's your lot in life Lalena

Can't blame you Lalena

Arty Tart Oh so la de da

Can your part ever get, ever get much sadder

That's your lot in life Lalena

Can't blame you Lalena

Oh, Lalena

I loved Ian Gillain in his element and had a great voice and was magnificent on the original Andrew Lloyd Webber's Jesus Christ Superstar as well as many DP recordings, but as far as Deep Purple was concerned he had no part in the two best two songs ever produced by DP; Lalena and Anthem. Rod Evans' rending of these songs will always remain unsurpassed. Lovely voice.

Photo above is not MRK 1, though. Rod (MRK1) indeed is doing the singing here, but in the photo above, that's Ian Gillian singing and Roger Glover playing bass, two replacements that comprised MRK 2. I do agree that MRK1 was the best. Thanks for posting. Great photo. Just being a little technical, sorry.
