The reason this lady didn't get the recognition she so richly deserved, is because of the old 'CORN PONE' dinosaurs that still control the country music establishment in Nashville (including the Grand 'Ol Opry). In the 1980s and '90s, especially, if you didn't embrace old fogies like 'Roy Acuff', Ernest Tubb, and the rest of those old fossils, you were blackballed, and radio stations were told NOT to play your music no matter how GOOD it was. Deborah Allen was a victim of this 'clique' system, and that is a dirty shame. She was (and is!) a terrific singer and song-writer, and because she tried to bring COUNTRY MUSIC into the modern age, she was ignored. Oh well, go get your BILL MONROE 78 RPM records out and listen to them (if your ears can tolerate it, that is). (Mine can't!)

It's too darn bad that when Highway 101 broke-up that Deborah Allen wasn't called to replace Paulette Carlson. She is extremely talented and I truly believe she would have fit in perfectly with Highway 101.

Wish someone would upload her "Chained Lightening" from Delta Dreamland. I have that cassette and it was so sexy and blue. Great song along with everything on that particular album.
