This was the pop music! Debbie was 16 when this video was made, and she epitomized how a sexy, classy and dance pop video should be done. This song is unforgettable; it was her first big hit. In 1987, and even now, I enjoy watching this because she not only tells a story with nice props, but she dances and feels the rhythm. Madonna was the material, pop queen during the 80's, who also made music videos with substance; however, she brilliantly sang and made controversial music videos about profound subjects. That's what made her iconic. The pop candy today, like the Miley's, Ariana's....etc, and the r&b/pop queen Beyonce are performing in a different caliber, a lower one; affected personalities are forgettable. I wouldn't say that there is inordinate praising going on (nowadays); it's simply part of the new generation and culture. There are a few decent pop singers today; the genre hasn't gone completely down the commode.

It's funny how everyone is praising this compared to 'today's shit. When this was released it WAS regarded as shit. (watch Bill Hicks). And there is plenty of good music around today. Mark Ronson, Bonobo, Kendrick Lamar, Pharell Williams, Daft Punk, Caribou, Sufjan Stevens to name a few. That's just the mainstream(ish) aswell, there's a lot more great music you just got to search for it.
