what an epic album of pure chuck schuldiner mayhemic rifftastic metal music!! & as a bassist myself of over 24 years i have nothing but total respect for Steve Di Giorgio the frettless bass master. I think the frettless bass sounds so good with death metal,black metal & some hard core metal because it cuts through the guitar's so nicely & smooth. I'm surprised more bassists haven't gone that route more, especially with how today's metal music has become where you can't even hear the bass anymore or they just play along to the guitar's & it doesn't cut through at all just like on metallica's & justice for all album with jason newsted's first album. Jason just played along to james hetfield's rhythm guitar parts & you can't even hear him. But from what i've heard & i don't know if it's true or not but when jason newsted joined metallica they had already had justice for all written & were under certain time straints to complete it & jason basically was rushed into learning it & when your rushed into learning it you basically just follow the rhythm guitar parts & james,kirk & lars even have admitted it. It would be cool to see them re-do that album with better bass lines but us bassist's don't get those privileges lol.
