Charted at #29 on Billboard Hot 100 in 1960. The song is from the movie "Circus of Horrors". Other U.S. versions that charted on the Hot 100 during the same year were by Garry Miles (actually Buzz Cason using a fake name), and an instrumental version by Billy Vaughn. The original UK version was by Garry Mills and it also charted on the Hot 100. Deane charted one other time on the Hot 100 during the following year when "Pocketful of Rainbows" reached #93.

Written by Mark Anthony.

B-side is "Bossman".

i was eleven years old when i saw this movie...frightened me almost to death! but the song was so beautiful...I've heard five versions of this song and i prefer to hear Garry Mills' and Dean Hawley's version...i tend to listen to Garry more, i think it's because he did the theme song

This is the best version of this particular song. His voice is clearer and sounds more like a teenager...Garry Miles' version sounded muddled. Funny thing is, the instrumentation on both songs sounds the same.

This may be the first hit by UK's prolific Tony Hatch- and definitely the best version of it. Deane's one of the best from the teen idol era and should have been a bigger star. By all accounts a wonderful guy too. RIP Deane and thanks for some great music.

Very close to the original by Gary Mills of England ! Garry Miles has a better girl chorus which is very, very haunting indeed ! I have talked to the composer via email about his great composition ! A good song can be still greatly appreciated after 50 years ! Very few pop songs can pass this time test !

Between Deane Hawley and Garry Miles, I think Deane's version is far better.

FYI - Deane Hawley's version of the song sounds the best because it IS the best. And I'm not just saying that because he's my daddy.

@Cetara86 ......Actually, I have an article straight out of a newspaper that is talking about the song "Look for a Star" which is from the movie "Circus of Horrors". It says, and quote....."Imperial has a 45 release by Garry Mills from the original soundtrack. Then Liberty has a single out of the same song by Garry Miles "as featured" in the picture. Both have the same arrangement and basically the same instrumentation"..... "What's especially interesting is that although these two labels.....

This is so god damn bueatiful, I don't know how this could of been overlooked for it's positive lyrics and be under ranked and rated by Billboard. This has happened time and time again where the Music association/Billboard has given an official top 10 song, perhaps even a chart topper like this one a failing grade....#29, that's okey for Alvin's Harmonica but to "Look for a Star'", and not reach the top...come on, there is something fishy aout Billboards way of judging a song!!!

I loved this version most. Deane lived near me in San Diego, Ca. Sorry I never got to meet him before he passed. I remember the 4th of July fireworks of 1960 and this song. I bought the other versions before finally finding Deane's. He truely did the song justice...Bravo !!!!
