Sinatra orchestrated the "Together Again" tour primarily because Dean Martin's Son Dino had tragically been killed in a plane crash while performing Military service in 1987 and Martin understandably became deeply depressed; Sinatra believed that attempting to recapture the magic of their stage performances during the late 50s and early 60s would help to alleviate his emotional trauma. additionally, Sammy Davis Jr. was experiencing financial problems and tax liabilities; Sinatra knew that the tour would enable Davis to generate several million dollars in income. Martin, at this stage of his life, was disenchanted with performing and didn't want to stay up into the wee small hours of the morning with Frank. Accordingly, Martin released a story that he was being hospitalized when , in reality, he had decided not to continue the tour due to fatigue. He retired soon after this appearance.
