I was a staid nerd when my sister gave me the 45 and insisted I listen to it, plus other songs. Opened up my eyes. Not enough to totally de-nerd, since that's just nature, but she showed me new possibilities and efforts etc. This song was kind of a relevation. Was soon listening to Sonic Youth, Public Enemy, Dead Kennedys, Siouxie.... And allowed me to also appreciate Clint Black, Vince Gill, Brooks and Dunn after I found my Brand New Country Lover.
