Mesmerism, or animal magnetism by Franz Mesmer, was the precursor to what we call the "New Thought" movement, today. Mesmer attempted to treat ill people with a combination of hypnosis, music therapy and magnetic therapy. Later, he discontinued the use of magnets, believing the same results could be achieved with thought alone. Mesmer, not unlike the infamous televangelists of the 20th century, failed to heal with his treatments and was disregarded by most in the scientific community.That aside, it is a fantastic song. :]
