De La Soul - Millie Pulled a Pistol On Santa

Prince Paul sampled originally took the main sample from a Patrice Rushen single. This is a different mix than the version on De La Soul Is Dead. I will also upload the full mix that is not an instrumental.

Hope everyone enjoys. Merry Christmas.

Also-- you may also find "Mommy, What's a Gravedigga?" by the Gravediggaz, especially the extended Rza mix (which has its own instrumental I once upon a time uploaded, though someone else has since put it back up I believe) enjoyable. Prince Paul recycled the sample and used it on that song with The Gravediggaz (I forget. .. I think the was The Undertaker in that group? I don't remember..maybe The Gatekeeper? All I know is he produced for 'em and that one album 6 feet Under/Niggamortis RULED).

I uploaded it yesterday. ;) It's my early Xmas present to youtube. They let it remain up this time-- I used the Fair Use Notice in my upload, and youtube didn't flag it. Just look in my recent uploads... if it's not there, then maybe youtube did flag it. It's also in video response within this video... just dunno where to check those- ha. So check my uploads... it's a recent one.

Yeah I meant that version but WAIT WHAT!? :O There's a version with these beats + the lyrics!?!?!? OMG I MUST HEAR IT! That would be the best hybrid ever! I remember first hearing this and going "damn if only it had the lyrics..." Wait, so it's not on youtube? How do I find it?

You know I don't even know how to view the video responses, so if you don't either, just check out my most recent of uploads! :)

Haha, it's totally cool dude. You were right in a way, it does sample it. And guess what? I have an early Xmas gift for everyone! (My name is actually Nick, so you can call me Santa if you guys want!) Thank the Fair use notice because without it, I think youtube would probably ruin all of this great music for us all. Enjoy!!! If you guys want me to, I can try to get the rest of the single on here. P.S. The surprise is in the video response. lol. My favorite version of this classic...

You know, you're right. Part of this is from I'll Stay. I don't know what I was thinking. There's actually 3 samples in the song all together, but this is the version where the Rushen sample is front & center (unlike on De La Soul is Dead, where I'm not even sure if the Rushen sample is included in that version? It's been a few years.. I may be wrong..), so when I first uploaded this I guess that's what I was thinking at the time. The 3rd sample is from "Synthetic Substitution" by Melvin Bliss!

Sorry about that GodFlintstone. I meant the bass line is the very same as Funkadelic's "I'll Stay". I must have had my head up my butt to say it was sampled from that song. Definitely from that Patrice Rushen song. Sorry.

I'm pretty sure this is originally from a Patrice Ruhshen song.... Funkadelic may have sampled it first. The sample has been used by the following artists (and probably many more): Prince Paul w/ De La Soul and again w/ The Gravediggaz (Mommy, What's a Gravedigga?...obviously a play on ....What's a Funkadelic..), 2Pac ("Grab the Mic"), and there was one other song I can recall, but I can't think of it off the top of the head. Just look up the page on wiki for the original Patrice song...

Well my copy on my computer isn't my direct rip. :P I'm pretty sure I found it on a p2p program somewhere. I think the vinyl pops up on eBay sometimes, though. By original version I'm just curious if you mean the version on De La Soul is Dead? I love that version too, but it's without some samples that this Instrumental version has. This version with lyrics is by far my favorite version of the song. Problem is I'm pretty sure WGM or someone flagged that upload. I had it up a long time ago.

That's okay, ahh Prince Paul - I'm not surprised, he's an amazing producer. And yes I am very interested!! The original version of this song is my favourite track by De La Soul and I would love to hear the rest of this single; especially since you have it on Vinyl. I assume the sound quality would be impeccable.

It's the Millie Pulled a Pistol/Keepin' the Faith single.... there's 6 or 7 tracks on it, I believe. There's an instrumental to Keepin' the Faith too, I WANT to say... going to look in a few. I used to have a ton of hip-hop uploaded to my channel, but fucking Deathrow took some of it down, WGM the rest, etc. Now my channel is mostly punk and/or lesser known bands being uploaded, as its the only way I can keep it up. I have a lot of hip-hop not on here, if only youtube would let me share it.

I'm glad you like it! :) Sorry this took be 6 days to get back to.... but no, I did not make this. I wish I could take credit for it though, I really do, but this was a Prince Paul production. :P I don't understand why there is parts where you can hear them either.... but this is actually an official release. I own a copy on vinyl, somewhere in storage after a bunch of moves, but this isn't my personal rip. I do have the rest of this single if you're interested. I may upload it some tonight.

This sounds so fantastic. Did you make this though? In parts I can hear the faintest voice of them rapping the lyrics.
