Tony Orlando Was A Record Executive When He Was Asked To Sing Lead On A Record Company Demo Tape Presented To Him By Dave Appell And A member Of The Tokens, Hank Medress. After Polishing The Song A Bit And Adding Some Female Backing Vocals, The Suits At Bell Records Fell In Love With The Song. Orlando Had A Non-Compete Employment Contract That Prohibited Him From Using His Name....So A Stage Name Was Created....And The Rest Is History. "Candida" By The Group "Dawn" Hit The Airwaves In The Summer Of 1970 And Climbed The Billboard "Hot 100" To #3. Tony Orlando Became A Star Overnight And Continued His Hit Making Success Through Most Of The 70's. Radio Station Jingle Introduction From LA's Hit Music 93KHJ !

Vinyl still rules doesn't it? Something about it that is much more resonant (overtones probably) than digital. I noticed it first on the Beatles material. It lost something in digital.

On the back liner notes of Bell 6052, there is a "Special Thanks to Tony Orlando" credit; he was doing A&R for CBS' April-Blackwood Music and didn't want to lose his day job just yet. The girls didn't get credits till later. There is one other voice in the mix as well, that of Toni Wine. Toni "ghosted" on the original track before Joyce and Telma were hired. She's also uncredited because she was on another label then. After 45 years, it's still three minutes of pop heaven. That's not Tony on the LP cover, either; just some stock photos Bell got for the occasion. It's the first of five singles that came from this one LP. Not bad for a bunch of demos.

I listened, danced and sang along to this song in 1970 to my girlfriend named Candy.  I was in third grade and still remember her and this song fondly.
