No. Michael Mantler: Live was the best album of the '80's. But this ain't shabby by any means.

Cool, ,might be appreciated as a modern music video these days.  A real Talking Heads vibe me thinks... love it !

Thank you! I never knew that. They're online now, but YouTube won't let me post the link. Go to Grooveshark.

LOVE this track. It took me ages to figure out that some of the samples came from "The Birds", but the "Poltergeist" stuff was so powerful... I was obsessed!!!

This got a lot of play on hip hop stations in the San Francisco Bay Area in the mid-80s. To me, this is hip hop and very Kraftwerkian. I have the "These Things Happen" CD single that was issued by the old MP3.com.

@humungus57 Do you have any more info? I've looked online but couldn't find anything.

Sample ID: "Mommy, Mommy, I can't see you mommy, where are you" comes from Poltergeist. But does anyone know where the "Look...Look" comes from? I seem to recall watching an old (british?) black & white movie that ended with a little girl looking out a window where rain was streaming down the pane & it looked like tears rolling down her face & she said "Look, ? I'm crying". I could have sworn it was the same voice.....I always wanted to watch the whole movie, but forget to id the title, anyone?

I bought this LP & 12" after hearing it in a gay club too & then was blown away when VH-1 started playing the video (along with other more experimental music videos). The LP (and Laurie Anderson's United States box set) were rather thin & a poor quality pressings (the pops & crackle overshadowed the music). This album (along with Eno's My Life In The bush Of Ghosts) presaged the UK dance & sampling craze of the 90s & really needs to be remastered & issued on CD/SACD!

At 20 years old, high on MDA and dancing at the gay clubs to this back then I truly felt this track was a "gift" to me and my friends from my friend who had died(murdered) earlier in the 1984...his favorite movie at the time of his death was "Poltergeist" and when i listened to this track at home with head phones on I clearly heard the P-geist samples and the hair on my neck just stood up. Thanks Jeff H!! There are also samples from some scenes from the movie, "The Birds."

Why hasn't this ever been released on CD? My album & 12" single are full of pops & clicks.
