From the superb (and still unreleased) TV special, "David Foster's Christmas Album" (NBC, December 10, 1993): here is Grammy Award-winning producer/composer David Foster performing "Carol of the Bells" during the opening credits of the show.

This TV special and Christmas CD featured some of the best Christmas music of the 1990s, performed by Mr. Foster and an all-star cast:

David Foster is seen here conducting an orchestra "playing" this piece, but in reality, most of the instruments were played on keyboards and synthesizers in the recording studio by Mr. Foster himself. (He credits the "Keyboard Orchestra" on the CD liner notes.)

The audio heard here is not the original broadcast audio. On the TV version, an announcer's voice was heard reading the names of the guest stars over the opening credits. I replaced the audio with the CD audio so that the music could play without interruption.

Audio:

Produced by David Foster

Arranged by David Foster

Horns Orchestrated by Brad Warnaar

Video:

Produced by Linda Jonsson, David Foster & Michael Petok

Directed by Paul Miller

Musical Staging & Choreography by Walter Painter

Ballerina: Tina LeBlanc

Some years ago, a local FM radio station here started playing Christmas music 24/7 beginning before Thanksgiving. This song was part of their playlist. My sister, who is as big a Christmas fan as anyone, came to my folks house and while there mentioned this song by David Frost, The Bells. She said I would love it. I went to the stereo my folks had, picked out this CD, loaded it, and when it came on said, "This song?". She just looked at me and nodded. I told her I bought the album the day this special aired, about 3 years prior. And, yes, I love this version.

Large orchestras will always have a place in my heart as very few other ensembles have equal sound output in terms of quality and fullness of sound. The other exceptions being marching bands and big bands. Love all three. This performance is why!
