From the TOP OF THE POPS 500th Edition (tx 04/10/73), this specially-shot promo of David Cassidy's hit single Daydreamer features the singer performing on the tarmac at Heathrow Airport.

The edition of TotP this clip hails from is currently missing from the BBC archives. The clip only survives because it was featured on Australian ABC show GTK (Get To Know) in 1974. The GTK programme was retained in the ABC archives as a B&W 16mm kinescope, hence the less-than-perfect quality. It has subsequently been aired on music show Rage. A copy has now been returned to the BBC.

The clip has been restored and the soundtrack replaced with the record version for audio clarity (Cassidy was miming in the clip anyway).

1974 - In London, 650 people needed medical treatment, with 30 needing hospital treatment when a crowd lost control at a David Cassidy concert. Bernadette Whelan, a 14 year old girl died on 30 May in hospital from her injuries. I still get butterflies when I watch this clip, and see him , so glad I was around at this time 14yrs old, went to both concerts Bellvue and his final one at main Road broke my heart when he retired.Feeling for him now, so sad to see him like he is after being such a big influence on so many many young people, Still love him with all my heart and hope he finds peace and true happiness one day again Love you David, thank you for the memories

Lovely man. David Cassidy. What would have happened if that TV show was not about a singing family? Would he had become the serious actor he wanted? Will never know. I think the Partridge Family and his concerts were his career, and he never knew it. Make the money and run. Makes me mad that so many people working for this young man took advantage of him. Started sort of a chain reaction in his life. Oh well, ladies are still out there watching you sing, we might be 50ish butstill remember the thrill you gave us. Thank you for that.

Great performer. Too bad his dad was a butt hole. And I know David suffered a lot because of his father. Or what ever he was. But anyway I loved David's music. Also I have a cousin that would have passed as his twin. And yes back in the days that was the hair style. Awesome.

I recall my sister pinning David Cassidy poster on her bedroom wall, though I could see why, I only ever commented on his singing that I liked too much.

What is it with the British? You couldn't wait till he got to a TV studio to perform? You had him do it on the tarmac at Heathrow. We at least let the Beatles get to the Ed Sullivan studio before they performed.
