Beautiful song, but way too over-produced... It wasnt until 1983 that Bowie put out a proper version of this song on his Ziggy the Motion Picture soundtrack. Unfortunately, it was a melody including two other songs, but damn! It was brilliant...

Can it really be so many decades ago that I rushed out to buy this and then listened over and over to the lyrics and songs. Still one of my all time favourites. Born well ahead of his time but so great to have lived through his contribution to music. No one like him since and never any to follow. A true one-off!

God have mercy of the ones who dislike this.

This song to me is the best song Bowies sung. I love nearly every song he's made, but this song I can imagine he's singing about me as a child. Weird I know!

My favourite track from, in my opinion, the most talented, beautiful man ever.

I used to have this on LP vinyl and it was my favorite track on the album which I used to play over and over in my bedroom as I did my homework as a 15 year old rebel way back in 1973/74. Still a great song that is so "Bowie". I can hardly believe 40 years have past,... they sure do fly away!

Man, it sounds just like something from the score of a really old Disney flick! . .. I love it though! Remarkably talented and versatile singer & songwriter who never ceases to amaze me!.

I will always remember how I felt when I first listened to this song. Good always shines more brightly than hurt & fear.

kjsh987 thank you. I'm forty-three now and I do know I'm not alone anymore. But all those years ago....(it doesn't feel that long ago) in 1984, this song captured my blue outlook on things. I didn't know about his dad, oh! Such a bittersweet memory!

I thunk he felt the same as you because at the time he was making that album his father, which was very close to him, passed. but you weren´t alone for sure
