Two greats. Modern "music" has no relationship to the heart and soul these two guys poured into every performance. When I get down about US imperialism, life under race to the bottom capitalism, the destruction of the middle class (even with all its cultural flaws), I find songs from Ochs, Van Ronk, the early Dylan, the Civil Rights Movement, anti-war movement and other music of the times. We didn't change the world the way we wanted to but we sure gave people a vision that there was another way to live. We did not have to chose between Soviet bloc "socialism" (although I do salute them for the aid they gave to Third World liberation struggles while US was trying to keep people in chains) and US Imperialism. The world is a better place for the singers and songwriters of the era and all of us who took to the streets or who resisted in a million different ways. Art Sadin

I heard a rumor that Phil was depressed after being left out of Dylan's entourage for the " THE ROLLING THUNDER " tour...which had select other Canadian folk singers : Joni Mitchell and Gordon Lightfoot

I was at this concert also. I'll never forget the experience of watching and listening to Dave sing this song that night. I had tears in my eyes then and I have them now. Dave and Phil were great artists. I miss them both.

Unreal.

The loss of Phil Ochs was sad - he was managed badly and he found himself at odds with what his purpose was as a performer. Probably was clinically depressed, did himself in. Terrible loss of a great voice.

phil ochs and victor jara were very close friends. and god bless the coens for helping so many oeple learn about dave van ronk, or to revisit him. (though i think llewyn davis was much more of a pr**k than van ronk ever was!)

I know it was a long time ago. But I can remember what it felt like. I miss you Phil, especially tonite. Thanks for posting.

The epitome of authenticity. See where Paxton, Dylan, Ochs, Yarrow, et al found their inspiration.
