Day dawns dark, it now numbers infinity.Life crawls from the past, watching in wonderI trace its patterns in me.Tomorrow's tomorrow is birth again.Boats burn the bridge in the fens;the time of the past returns to my life and uses it.Don't blame me for the letters that may form in the sand;don't look in my eyes, you may see all the numbersthat stretch in my sky and colour my hand.Don't say that I'm wrong in imaginingthat the voice of my life cannot sing.Fate enters and talks in old words: they amuse it.Hands shine darkly and white;only in dark do they appear.Bless the baby born today, flying in pitch, flying on fear. They shine in my eyes and touch my facewhere I have seen them placed before;don't blame me, please, for the fate that falls:I did not choose it.I did not, no, no, I did not,I truly did not choose it.

*deep sigh* still love this after all these years! all that's missing is that very faint whisper in the background behind "Bless the baby born today..." saying 'Wicked little Scorpio, doomed to die a thousand times before he LIVES.' Nevertheless, "Darkness" always gave me those 'great music!' chills, and it still does. Many thanks to the uploader for sharing the blessing of seeing VdGG perform this live. I never got to see them as a kid so this was a true treat.

And purely by name, I recalled Van Der Graaf Generator. This was almost half a century ago... when the term "progressive" still meant something!

This tune is amazing. I grew up with Traffic, King Crimson, Yes, Soft Machine...Focus. I've found my new favorite band.
