I miss the aggressive riffs, drums, lyrics and vocals from the Hidden hands days. Its still quality music but nothing out of the ordinary.

Taylor Larson is the producer for this album. Look at the older ones where Devin Townshed produced. Devin as we all know is a total badass. Producers usually try to take bands in new directions, obviously why their sounds will sound different. IN MY OPINION this sucks, but its an opinion. I liked the other shit that Devin helped produced cause thats what I knew DH for.

I dig both the old and new sounds of this band.John Henry has always been known for tossing in clean vocals sporadically into Darkest Hour Songs. I mean for one, he's taken voice lessons in order to learn how to scream without wrecking his vocal chords and a lot of the exercises that vocalists do in order to practice that involve them learning how to sing. I imagine he's probably had a desire to sing for a while by now since he's picked up this skill. If you look at some of the clean vocal spots on some of their recent albums leading up to this one, you can kind of tell that he's been dying to show off his chops.Seriously, I don't get what pisses fans off so much about this new sound. The guitar riffs are still as technical, fun, and hard hitting as ever; the drumming is matching that intensity spot on, and this is STILL metal. I really hate this "you can't sing through a whole song and barely scream unless you're a classic metal band like iron maiden" mentality that metalheads have.Honestly, I think that despite how edgy and nonconformist most metal fans like to think they are, a lot of them are really the exact opposite of that. Think about about it; they have a really specific set of values about what metal is and isn't, they're super conservative about straying from them, they're RIDICULOUSLY frightened by the thought of their bands changing, and they get MEGA pissy about bands of other genres borrowing elements of their sound and putting different spins on it. They have a very clear line drawn on the sand marking what a metal band can and can't do, and a hoard of fans patting each other on the back for liking the "right" bands and dissing the rest... They kind of remind of scene kids. Don't they hate those? If I'm to judge this song by it's own merits and not by my preconceived notions of what darkest hour is supposed to sound like, then here's my conclusion: the instrumentals are damn good. They're beautifully melodic, intense and heavy. John Henry is a great singer and this song actually kicks a fuck ton and a half of ass.

I have the physical copy of this album, it lists this song being track 13, the final track, but it's not on the disc...... can I get any clarification on this, Sumerian?

If this is the end of the Darkest Hour legacy, I will be saddened. This is one hell of a masterpiece to end it though.
