Odd choice to cover in a melodic death metal style. They would have been better going for something off Kill 'Em All, Ride the Lightning or Master of Puppets. The pace of those tracks would be better suited to Stanne's vocals.

No disrespect to the band or fans, but this is a horrible cover. I think this is one of the songs they shouldn't have done. I could hear this voice going ok with stuff from Death Magnetic, Master Of Puppets, ...And Justice For All, Kill 'Em All and Ride The Lightning but other then that they shouldn't sing anything from Black, Load and Reload cause those albums only the Hetfield can sing and it will sound right. This song is too calm for the voice he uses.

there's a very good reason dark tranquillity (and bands like them) are called "melodic death metal". even using your definition of "heavy", DT is still heavier than metallica. "actual melodies" is what they do. hell, it's what they are known for. don't judge them based on some metalcore bands or other bands that have screaming or growling, DT is way different. they actually play their instruments. and they play them very well, i might add.

Well old As I Lay Dying is decent. But this is a melodic death metal band covering Metallica so what do you expect? Of course they do it in their own way, hence the word "cover".
