I think DT does cleans vocals just enough: They don't overdo it and sound like a Nightwish ripoff and they don't just include 1 line of clean vocals to sound cool. Instead it seems like they actually compose the songs how they want them to sound. Which includes some extended clean vocal parts. Because everyone loves ballads and they are harder to do with growls.
