Dick Clark also told Connie Francis not to release MAMA it would ruin her career and will not be a hit, but he was wrong . The song went top ten and earn her a million seller GOLD record.

3 still alive. Frank and Joe still perform with Frank's brother as Danny and the Juniors. Dave joins in occasionally. Just saw their show. They can still rock at 72.

@AkiroXKE Clark admits to this day he blew that one, since he thought being from opera, the song wouldn't jive with the Rock & Roll crowd. Since it earned Darin a Grammy for Best New Artist and Record of the Year for Mack the Knife, it definitely wasn't one of Clark's better calls. Still, his hits are a lot more than his misses.

@CYBERVISIONSdotCom That's interesting. Of course, Dick Clark also admitted to telling Bobby Darin not to record "Mack the Knife" because the song could never be a hit, which shows his judgement wasn't always perfect!

@AkiroXKE Absolutely true - just prior to its release in '57 (when D&J were still the Juvenairs) it was originally called "Do the Bop". When Dick Clark heard it, he suggested changing the name to "At the Hop", which is how they performed it (as Danny & the Juniors) on American Bandstand. The rest is Rock & Roll history.

Dick Clark said he suggested they redo the song and call it "At the Hop". Is he telling the truth on this or is he full of it?
