Some musings on why Danny Kirwan's technique may have resulted in the broken string in the Like it That Way clip //www.youtube.com/watch?v=HQ8AcEYTEFY&feature=related including how Danny probably produced his vibrato, and how to play the phrase from the song & in passing , also coming your wayhttp:

Loved the comments about the stringing.. Thanks for your experience.. I always thought it a ruddy tough job of bending on the standard acoustic strings but I realize its the type of string on the electric, bridge height and layout...

Thank you for sharing! You are obviously a pro and even play without trimmed fingernails.

I think I've figured out what your'e asking Mike ! Is a zip tie what I would call a "cable tie "?(If so I've never heard the name Zip tie before) So it's is the black plastic thing round the headstock of my guitar ? nothing exciting - it's there so I can hang the guitar on a hook on the wall !!

danny is very aggressive with his right hand. he's coming from 8-10 inches away and hitting the string right at the bridge. the bending obviously causes higher tension, but the aggressive picking is to blame in my opinion. that's how he gets such powerful attack. hard hitting close to the bridge. love this song. danny is a guitar god. overlooked and underrated.

Very good explanation of the style of Danny Kirwan. You know the chords of women's issues a thousand years? If so could you post them. Thanks and regards.

I found the broken string, about 1:50 into the clip you mentioned above. Looks to me like he was a little wild with his right hand around that time, but that in combo with all the bending he does probably did it!

Okay, I'll look again, thanks. I found one similar to that but missed the broken string part. Not sure why that's important to me LOL! Thanks again, I'm enjoying this new found technique :-)

Hi snooker I use 009 myself but it should be reasonably easy with your strings check the obvious things like having your fingernails well trimmed, but the ease of bending strings through one whole tone or more can also depend on the profile of the guitar neck the height of the frets and how comfortable your hand feels against the edges of the fingerboard but keep at it- any one can do it in the end

Hey @dot18: which video clip are you referring to with the "broken string"? I can't seem to find it. Just curious. Thanks!

Okay, I tried again today and it's not so bad. Just out of shape, I guess.... ;-) Still will take more practice to perfect!
