If anything, this song is trying to say that civilization is the true savages, because of the way they live or progress. Simplicity is the way to go, in essence.

As for all the hooting about this being "racist", let me try to explain. It's not racist in the sense that "blacks are inferior", that's never been the case. What it does, however, is to play up the old stereotype of the "childish savage", a holdover stereotype from when Europe saw it as the white man's burden to civilize the savage. People from tribal civilizations are no less stupid than anyone else, but things like these build on a misconception that because their civilization isn't as evolved as ours technologically, they must obviously be mentally unevolved as well. It is a false and somewhat harmful stereotype, that's where the accusations come from. Now I hardly think that Danny Kaye intended to belittle anyone, but that only goes to show how ingrained this view was, and sometimes is today as well, that "uncivilized" people are like children, inferior to us civilized adults. Then again, he uses this stereotype to satirize the modern man and all the discomforts of the big city, idealizing the idea of the simple life of the tribal civilizations, in that respect it's quite open-minded.

because of Fallout I now listen to jazz and completely despise everything new. My dad always listened to Big Band albums when I was a kid. Then I started playing Fallout and it reminded me of jazz and then I started listening to jazz and the older 30's type of stuff.

As I was playing Fallout 3 for the first time, I actually recognized Danny Kaye from the movie Inspector General.
