Instructional Video Danny made before the Hot Licks Series. Excerpt from VHS. Put out by Pro Video. Believed to be out of print.

Please note this is for information only and to share with Gatton fans as myself. I make no money from this, no ads etc..If it was available I would not have posted it. Enjoy!!

Here is how I got the Video,

Somewhere around 1992 I was attending a lot of Danny Gatton Gigs. More so than through the years. I am from around the Washington D.C. area where you would say was Danny's home base.

I heard about the this Video and searched high and low for it, to no avail. It was 'already' out of print.

Finally, I went up to Danny after one of his gigs and explained I had been looking everywhere for it.

He said he had a few left in his trunk and they were probably the last ones. He said he would drop them off at a local Vintage Guitar store and I could pick one up there for $30-$35 (as I recall).

Well, Danny did his part and when I went in to pick it up I mentioned Danny was going to drop one off for me, and the price.

He said, yes he dropped it off, but said the price was $50 because he could get that for it elsewhere. Miffed, I went ahead and gave him the $50 because I knew this would probably be my last chance to get a new one.

I never returned to the store because I felt like he gouged me.

BTW, the same company put out 2 other videos of local heros. One was Tom Principato, and the other was Jim Thackery. Both still playing.

Sorry, I had the TAB that came with the video but I haven't seen it in years.

Enjoy!

Danny was truly gifted, talented and a great musician. I saw him at a place I think was called Gallaghers and I also saw Roy Buchannan at some joint close to Bethesda. Needless to say after seeing them I knew I could never hold a candle to either of these two " Master's of the Telecaster" BUT I still enjoyed their shows and I still after all these years look to them for inspiration AND I play Livestock by Roy and Cruisin Deuces by Danny on my CD player at least once a week May they both rest in peace.

I can't for the life of me understand that statement Bo and it's not true. You just didn't know Danny like some of us.

I love this guy, but the wow and flutter of the tape makes his guitar sound out of tune, of course that's being fastidious and picky. And then those old brass saddles don't help eitherHis slide technique is awesome.

Just amazing. Jaw dropping intro if you are truly into the guitar and not the whole dick waving thing. THE HUMBLER. That is the nickname given to him by many great players. He was equally adept at restoring old cars. Really did not practice like most great players. True one of a kind guy. Damn shame he had the demons that plague so many true geniuses.

Want to play like Danny? That's easy. Play your guitar until it starts to fall apart, just like his. When the lacquer is all gone and your fingers start to dig through the wood, then you'll be a great guitarist as well, maybe not as good as him, but a very honest guitarist...There's nothing more pathetic than those "relic" guitars most brands sell nowadays, so kids can pretend they have actually deserved to have a guitar like that...You have to earn it, kids. If you want to really play music, you have to forget about everything else in your life and just practice like there was no tomorrow; There's no other alternative, at least until someone invents a way to upload information directly into your brain like a sci-fi movie ~Rafael Morgan (edited)

he isn't universally loved, that is why he doesn't make it up the list of world known guitarists. he played so clean.

It's been 20 years today, my thoughts and prayers to his family, we were neighbors but I never met you, it would be cool if we could be sitting having a beer right now Danny but I'll have one for you and when my time comes I'll meet you in heaven since I missed you on earth, so here's to your memory...cheers.Rob.

Dial tone is not an F. It is a mix of 350 Hz and 440 Hz. An F is 349.23 Hz, so if you tune to dial tone, you will be high by almost one Hz. The 440 Hz component is an A.

It was either Vai or Satch that called Gatton the best natural guitarist of all time. They also said Gatton could play like anyone but nobody could play like Gatton.

I recently learned about Mr. Gatton and was intrigued enough to view this and other videos. It's a shame he decided to check out from life because he was an outstanding player and could have been an outstanding teacher.

今は亡き Danny 先生。この VIDEO は観た事無いので UP してみました。10代の頃から知っていましたが当時は トーン が好みでは無かったので注目しておりませんでした。しっかし凄いです。

I guarantee you this guy, if still alive, could not play the stuff that Vai or Satriani plays; he doesn't have the hand flexibility to play the wide scalar/modal runs that Satch does. My point is that everyone great has his "thing". So comparison is really pointless. Gatton's style was his.

With Danny Gatton it was always Let's see....which "fender" should I work with today....my "Telecaster" or the one on my car. "Fender guitars" vs "Snap-on tools". I suspect Snap-on won out more times than not. I never met Danny Gatton the guitar legend but I would love to have wrenched with Danny the mechanic before he left us. R.I.P. Danny Gatton. JP-USA

Overrated. I could play like this when I was 14.

and this is why country and rockabilly players will always be better than most metal guitarists. don't get me wrong, there are lots of great guitarists of various metal bands but come on! these guys inspired all of that!
