As usual, Scroob, your lyrics are incredible. However, my complaint carries again; the beat and music on this track are so discordant and loud that I have genuine difficulty understanding the lyrics.

I don't see this as sanctimonious I hear the anger felt by someone who sees their partner, friend, sister or daughter self harming and ultimately taking their own life. At first it's almost accepted but as it goes on the anger intensifies as the persons self harm to eventual suicide, intended or not, happens. The anger brought on at being unable to do anything to change this, and the anger felt by someone who cannot understand what is going on in the girls mind whilst she self harms.

Wow. After hearing his introduction peice I never expected this sort of art is what his aim was. It's amazing and I'm glad he went for attention at first to reel people in. I'm one of the ones that was reeled in by his tactic but stayed for the true artistic integrity.

You know, be as pissed off as you want, but when I start to slip, I hear this in the back of my head. And it helps me stop. My sissy, my mom, my friends--I can't do that to them. I can't. I don't want to hurt them any more than I already have.

Having been in this situation and taking the 'easy way out' this has actually made me realise how selfish that failed attempt was.

I think the purpose of the music was to obscure the words more and more as it played on because that's how depression and suicidal thoughts are. You can't hear anything other than your dark thoughts. And you feel like no one can see your pain and no one can understand you. He says "Not enough people to listen" so the strong music is symbolic about that. But then again, that's just my opinion

I don't think you guys got the song's message. He's basicaly saying that, when we're depressed, we don't think about other people's feeling. He's being ironic when he says "As you said before, it's your life, your body, you can choose what to do". Because there's a lot more involved than just your feelings, there's your family/friends/partner feelings as well, and you should be able to count these when you think about suicide.

Suicide is the weak way out, the cowards option. We ALL face difficulties, some may be worse than others agrees. However, no matter how bad you think things are when you slit your wrists there is someone out there with worse problems that chose not to.

This is definitely one of Scroobius Pips most controversial songs, but I don't think it deserves to be thought of as sanctimonious or apathetic. I personally don't interpret the message as simply a moral shaming for the suicidal. Rather, I think it's pointing out the lies we can tell ourselves when we're depressed. The most obvious message is that suicide/self harm does not just affect you, and I think we all understand that. But I think one of the most important lines in this is right at the end - "too many problems to list them, not enough people to listen." The entirety of the song was listing off people who would listen, people who care about your problems and who would try to help you when you're depressed. But it's clear from the lyrics that the person is not doing so ("INSTEAD of turning to her with your problems you turn to a knife, " "INSTEAD of fighting through it together and turning things around" etc). You are not alone in life, even if you feel so, and you need not be alone with your problems.I like as well that the song does not focus on the problems he/she faces, whatever they may be. Whilst it acknowledges the troubles, it does not dwell on them or allow them to cloud his mind. We should never allow our own internal tragedies, big of small, to drive us to seclusion then suicide. "Too many problems to list them, not enough people to listen." Scroobius takes this damaging lie we all tell ourselves and exposes it. You are not alone with your problems.

Well, Scroobius, I've done it. I've found a song of yours whose message I disagree with, and it seems like a pretty fucking sanctimonious song at that.I find it puzzling that you seem to think that those on the verge of committing suicide have simply not considered other ways of dealing with whatever grief they are feeling.Suicide is unlikely to be the first option considered by anyone low enough to consider it at all. That's what suicide is, by its very nature: the most desperate method one can think of for alleviating their anguish, only employed after all alternatives have been exhausted. Rare is the person who would go to suicide before this point had been reached, and in at least some of these cases, those around the suicidee take some portion of blame for being unapproachable, unsympathetic, or even downright cruel (it stands to reason that this might be the case if the person is committing suicide, does it not?).Furthermore, if suicide is not acceptable because of the damage it causes to our loved ones, then where is the line in the sand, Scroobius? When do we stop being beholden to other people's wishes and wellbeing? When do we get to live (pun intended) for ourselves? Is there no line? Do we exist only for other people, and therefore nobody's wishes or feelings actually matter? I realize that the implication I'm making is a slippery slope and doesn't exactly follow from the song's premise, but I feel that the premise prompts the question.Am I misinterpreting you completely? Is this not your message at all? Are you saying that the decision does actually rest with us, but that we need to give serious thought to what will happen after we're gone before choosing death?Part of me wants to agree with you, Scroobius, but I simply can't endorse this kind of slavery-to-the-whims-of-others vein of thought.
