When I first heard this song, I thought it was Eddie Money (possibly because the beginning sounds a lot like Money's 1987 hit "I Wanna Go Back" (only a little more laid back). Too bad this one wasn't promoted to Top 40 radio. If "Can't We Try" made the Top Ten, no reason this one shouldn't have done just as well.
