Fogelberg was a master of many things, particularly of penning soul-searching (if not -scorching) lyrics. This song, one of my key favorites in his immense body work, ironically reveals that he couldn't master one thing : his emotions of that period. It is well known that the divorce from his first wife was not a pleasant matter; he was pretty devastated. Luckily for us he turned that grief into a mirror image for many, especially women. Dan's death left me stricken. The (true) leader of the band has no equal to take up his baton, leaving us all ever lonely in loss.

Another great song from Dan Fogelberg, one we lost way too soon. I go back to 1974 with his music and have been stopped many times by his songs. This was done at a time music was fragmenting and trends changed. Dan didn't change all that much, and I thank him for it.

This is my favorite Dan Fogelberg song. And, my favorite part, near the end, when he sings "baby, you're my one and only, why do you keep me lonely in love?" gets me every time. I love it! Thanks.

It's a shame that this record didn't become a hit. Dan did so many great songs, but this one is the one I go to first. I've been lonely in love too many times and haven't got the will to go through it again, it always hurts. Thanks Dan for saying it best. R.I.P.

Wow. What a song. So accurately expressed exactly what I was going through when it was in rotation on the radio.(Fall of 1987, if memory serves me). Like other people, I too am amazed and saddened at the state of music today. How blessed we were in the 80s to just turn on the radio and, boom, hear a song like this.
