This song describes my recently failed relationship so well. In the beginning they are both interested in each other, but one or both of them have experienced heart break before, enough for them to feel extremely vulnerable to let the other person in. The chorus is about one of the lovers opening themselves up, showing there darkest places to there partner. The partner seems to care and love this person, and gives them a false sense of security. Maybe there heart is still with a past lover, but whatever has happened, they have the inability to fulfill the amount of love they say that they can give there partner. In the second half of the chorus, he is asking why his failed lover lead him onto think that she loved and cared for him just as much as he did for her. The last verse is a little broader, but i feel like it is about some realization that there is nothing more to be gained from the relationship, and there souls are more disjointed then ever. He knows he can no longer ask for her to give him what he needs, because she simply does not have it. Although they might give it one more try to rekindle what they once had by trying to make love in a place that was significant to them, but he knows it is no longer the same, just by looking into her eyes.
