how can he be happy with "just a sip of Jim" (1:10) ?? ;) Otherwise, great musical performance!

Lena Horne OWNED this song - and hers is a far better orchestration, with better intonation to boot. Search YT for - - Omb2kItC-JY

ive said it a hundred times, the difference between her and ALL the others is that not only can she sing, she can "put over" a number she delivers her pieces like a real actress. other sopranos are just a cringefest trying to perform, especially when they are called upon to be fetching and attractive shes fabulous

She has the voice but does not use it. the orchestra is cheap. i like helen morgan and the orchestra then. played in the wrong key. not operatic as helen morgan sang. i know helen was not an opera singer but she was better. it sounds like a 1960's arrangement which is great but this song needs a a 1930's arrangement. rated 6 which is the lowest rating i ever gave. it is passable but i want helen morgan or kiri to use her full operatic voice which has toned down.

@CarloQuinto Agreed. For that matter, the Helen Morgan version from the 1936 movie is superior to this.

One word sums it up I think...Boring! Nice lady, Dame Kiri, but I found myself falling asleep. Listen to Frances Langford do it. She nails it 100%. Every word is a gem! Frances Langford could do ANYTHING and make it sound like a masterpiece. She was and still is the GREATEST!

The beginning is rough. She gets into it a bit more half-way through. Like others have said, not bad for an opera singer. Keep in mind that Show Boat is from a time when pop music still had a classical tone. Some of the older versions I have heard with original casts had CRAZY vibrato. I found this much more pleasing to the ears. The beginning was just... lifeless. It's too bad she didn't start it the way she finished it!

isn't music all about interpretation??? . I think shes just got a new zealand accent. while i dont love it, shes not "awful". personally i think this song is better when sung with a jazz flavour.

awful. Diction is all around terrible--especially on the words "birds" and "gin." This is a self-indulgent interpretation entirely devoid of artistry. Cheers!

she sounds disingenuous, rigid, and creepy. 5 stars, hahah. :)

Very nice...better than most opera singers...including La Fleming. However, it's interesting that Eileen Farrell remains the only opera singer in history to understand popular singing.
