I lack the credentials to know who's rendition is best. All I know is that Dame Janet sends me into ECSTASY!

All the versions I have heard lack passion. This is love they are singing of!."Have you kindled my heart to warm love,Have you transported me into a better world,Transported into a better world!"

A very fine performance but obviously no rendition can compare with those of Ms Ferrier.

Ese Schubert, en la voz y el alma de Janet Baker, cada vez suena mejor! Salven ambos!

If Princess Margaret could have sung, she would have sung like this. Don't get me wrong. This is truly regal singing from Dame Janet

What a lovely memory! I had one of the best experience of my life performing the Mozart viola quintet there a few summers ago, to think I was performing where she also did, I can only feel that the space retained some of her aura, or whatever

Don't forget about the great Kathleen Ferrier, another wonderful British contralto/mezzo

Janet born in 1933 was from Hadfield in Yorkshire near to my home town. The finest singer in the world. You know my school music teacher Betty Phillips had a beautiful voice not unlike Ms Bakers. I would give anything to sing like this.

Janet was the most perfect singer. She meant all the words, whether they be English, German, Italian or French. Thank you dear Dame Janet for all the hours of musical delight, both live and in recording.
